How Do I Entertain My Kids at the Beach? – A short guide for parents

A day at the beach with your family might be your idea of a fun family getaway. A picnic with your family with delicious foods and drinks, watching the sun go down, or reading your favourite book while lying on the soft beach sand are the images that pop into anyone’s head when thinking of a beach getaway – but not if you have kids. To some parents, nothing can be as horrifying as taking their kids to the beach. But don’t worry, there are things you can do to keep them entertained.

Plan
You should start by planning your holiday. Is it going to be a short weekend getaway? Is it just an evening at the beach? Or is it going to be a long vacation that makes you look up the best things to do in Mauritius?
Finding the best accommodation can be tricky when you have kids. As you’ll inevitably have a lot of things to deal with, you should make sure that the accommodation side of things is all sorted. Find a place that caters to families, preferably a place located close to the beach – you have so many options, including the likes of The Residence Mauritius.

Bring a kiddie pool
You might want to keep your bags light when travelling with kids, but a kiddie pool is a must. When you are at the beach with your kids, they will certainly want to get in the water and play, but the ocean is not a safe place for kids. Understandably, you don’t want to spend your whole beach vacation watching over your kids either, so the best thing to do is to let them have their own fun in a kiddie pool. This way, you can be sure of their safety and have some time for yourself.

Build a sandcastle
While this is nothing original, building a sandcastle can keep your kids entertained for hours. You can encourage them to be as creative as they can be. For example, you can get them to build their favourite princess’s castle. They can decorate it with seashells, sea glass, and driftwood.

Writing
This sure sounds odd, but you can get your kids to practise their writing while at the beach. It’s difficult to assign a set time of day for them to learn their letters and numbers; it never works with kids. So, the best thing you can do is to incorporate learning into your daily routine. Your beach day presents you with an excellent opportunity. Think about it; it’ll be so much fun to write in the sand and get them to go over the letters. Take your kid’s hand and make them write the letters; you can also use a stick.

Collect seashells
This is not a novel idea but collecting seashells sure can keep your kids busy for hours. They are naturally curious and want to find and see new things. So, get them a small pail and ask them to collect seashells. There are different shapes and sizes; every seashell is a different shape, which will make your kids want to hunt for seashells all day long. Once you get home, you can put all the seashells in a decorative jar and keep it on their bedside table.

Things you need
Pack plenty of snacks and drinks. Make some healthy fruit juices and pack healthy snacks. Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, and don’t forget your sun lotion. Pack your kids’ swimsuits and get them hats if you can.
If you are considering a vacation rental, you might have to bring your own beach umbrella and chairs. Pack some waterproof bags and invest in a waterproof camera if you can; you will definitely have a lot of photo-worthy moments.
